Walmart Supercenter

This store totally simplified a move from Cincinnati to Des Moines for my daughter, and me (helping her set up the apartment in less than 3 days). They had practically everything we needed (curtains, rods, shower curtain and rod, step-stool, shelves, extra towels and bed linens, mop/broom/vacuum, extra hangers, laundry basket and things we forgot in Cincinnati) and it was less expensive than I anticipated. The store was well stocked, especially with back-to-school/dorm/apartment items. It was very organized and neat (for a Wal-Mart). Check out was quick and efficient...because we did self check-out. My daughter has been back a few times since I left and has always found what she needed.

So I’ve been shopping at this Walmart almost since they opened……
The ice cream in the freezer section every time I go in is covered in thick frost, so I don’t think the freezers have ever really worked correctly.
The meat section always smells like something has rotted and never got cleaned. The pic I attached to this was of a ham sitting in the meat area.
I’ve had the oil changed and tires rotated at the automotive section….  they destroyed the lug nuts at my most recent visit, so I hope they didn’t do anything else to my vehicle……
I have complained to corporate, but nothing ever got done.

Dec 24, 5:51 pm:  I and a handful of other were stopped/denied access at the entrance of Walmart by Gage and and older man ( bald, glass, mustache). I asked for the manager: A TEam Lead came out , and seem agitated and overly assertive while addressing me the entire time.  I was surprised,  looking for the voice of reason, he was not looking to have any understanding or empathy.

I asked why he was denying access to customers. He said " I want the employees to be ready to leave by 6pm and go home"..     I told him that's fine but why not make the closing time 530pm?  He countered by saying " because you'd be having the same conversation".    I told him "this is a disservice to the customers who came here, relying on  Walmart to have enough integrity to honor the open-close time.

He then says " looks, we're closed". I replied " no you're not:look".   I showed him my cell phone, that showed Walmarts closing time (6pm) and pointing to the current time (5:55pm after 5 minutes of talking). " you are open Nathan but you're denying us access".  And I left it at that.

To the walmart leadership,  Please consider this hypothetical scenario:

Nathan needs get at the airline gate by 6pm, and he arrived with his family at 5:50pm, ( like everyone did today), and they told him they're closing the doors early.  Nathan and his family miss their flightdue to employee making executive decisions,  underminingthe integrityand poloce ofnthe company. .  I'm sure that wouldn't be acceptable....

let's say he goes to rent a car right after that. He arrives to the rental car desk at 5:53pm , and they deny him a car because they want to go home early.  Would that be acceptable?

The customer should have an opportunity to get their needed items based of the open/close times listed.  I told Nathan,  " all I'm asking for is empathy for these customers out here waiting". He counters again with " what about the empathy for the workers".   I say this respectfully, I have empathy,  but, it doesn't seem he has empathy for anyone that was outside.  Customers were happy tonight.

The head store manager was outside the whole time,and she didn't do anything to find a solution.

I strongly suggest there be refresher training fir the leadership regards to integrity, and not msking executive decisions that undermine the company i.e. honor the open-close imes.

Now I and other customers from Walmart are at their competitors store,  and they're keeping their doors open until the actual close time.
WALMART YOU ARE BETTER THAN THIS. .

This review is based 100% on Erin the person who greets you in WDM. She is professional, welcoming and an ideal first impression.  I will go to see her as opposed to the near by grocery opportunity.

Sick of this damn place. The delivery department lied about my items being on sock. End up talking to Mary for her to find my items to add them to chart for me to have to pay twice. Mind u I put my order in soon enough to have a free delivery. Then our conversation ends and now have no money for refund to go elsewhere or my items for the holidays. I'm a member too

Papa Murphy's | Take 'N' Bake Pizza

I went in 7/28 about 10:45 am and ordered a pizza. The lady waiting on me was one of the rudest individuals I have ever come in contact with. I couldn't believe how unprofessional and unfriendly she was. For absolutely no reason. I literally just ordered a pizza. When she finished making it, she slide it across the counter at me and never said a word. I said thank you and she never even responded. So disappointing. The pizza was good though. Probably never go back.

I just left...I'm hopeful the food will be good but...I ordered online for 11:45 pick up...got there at 11:50...no pizzas ready! Couldn't even find anyone! Three other customers came in looking for their pizzas...none were made & counter had a pile of orders!!! Had to wait additional 15 minutes...customers were pissed!!! If management can't get people to work either work yourself or reduce hours...

So I'm new to the idea of picking up a pizza, paying as much as I would for a hot fresh delivered pizza, and them having to cook it myself. But in saying that, it is a great idea when you have a coupon. The coupon makes the whole experience worth it. The menu is good and has a lot of variety and the staff are friendly. From my experience the pizzas need a little extra tlc when they get home. Either adding extra toppings or cheese or fixing them to look more appetizing. Overall, Papa Murphy's pizza is good but not my favorite when it comes to delicious pizza.

Got five pizzas they're all great I do recommend only cooking one at a time or rotating them so that they cook evenly

Always friendly and quick service! My family loves the double layer pizza. So good!

Big House Gym & Nutrition

I really liked this gym.  It was a great place to lift weights and run.  The staff was friendly and helpful, and the place was clean and organized.  It does get a bit busy at times, however.

My only complaint is management.  I had to eventually cancel my membership, and the experience left a lot to be desired.  You need to provide 30 days notice, which is fine.  However, my cancellation was... cancelled for some reason.  I tried to communicate with management, but I was left footing the bill for 2 extra months.  No communication from management.  (The staff was better.)  I'm still waiting to hear back.

This gym was very clean and very new looking. They had all types of merchandise and supplements for sale in the gym. There was plenty of space and it wasn’t too crowded. The staff was very nice as well. However, the one downfall is that the doors were locked, even during the staff hours. So, without a key card, it would be hard to go inside and get a pass.

Staff is awesome! It is a very clean gym and great atmosphere. You can’t beat that it’s 24 hours. Supps available, trainers, lockers available, showers, posing room, allow chalk, etc!!!! Membership cost is very nice and has multiple options as far as monthly, 3 month, 6 month, etc. Highly recommend Big House Gym!

Big House Gym is a great place to train. They have top notch equipment, a posing room, nutrition store and great staff. Highly recommended!

Stopped in today for a back session and got to meet the owner Scott. Super nice dude and was very accommodating as he was the only staff present at the time. Love this gym and I love all the banners hanging up inside, especially the Lions Not Sheep, huge fan. Will definitely be coming back as this gym offers a great environment and has badass equipment. Might even make the jump to calling this my home gym. The 45 minute drive would be well worth it.

Red Lobster

Well......I was really disappointed when I got the 3 for $20.00 shrimp. Come to find out when they brought out the shrimp Alfredo the tails were still on the shrimp...in the PASTA! Sorry,  but that was a mess! Who wants to put their fingers in Alfredo sauce with noodles??? The manager said they had just changed the menu....last week.....He was very nice! CORPORATE, WHAT ARE YOU DOING???? I had asked the waitress for some more biscuits and she never did bring any back. She was nice but really didn't do the job well.

What we ordered:
— 1 lb crab legs; garlic butter seasoning comes with potatoes + a lemon + one side
— salmon entree with broccoli + mashed potatoes (came with shrimp which was a pleasant surprise)

the service was very good! the workers were all very very nice.

one downside / there were flies everywhere but i don’t know if that was necessarily the restaurant’s fault. just not too appetizing.

seafood was decent for being in iowa! would probably go back to laughing crab for crab legs but i enjoyed the variety here at red lobster.

Went to red lobster and the service was really good. I ordered the harbor, which was pasta, muscle, shrimp and lobster. It was pretty amazing for a sea food dish. My wife ordered two lobster tail special abs she said it was also good. Beers were plentiful and it made all of us happy for a late night dinner.

We went out to get the endless shrimp platter around 8:15pm. We did not get our food until about an hour later, and we thought it was perfect timing to come in during that time since it wasn’t too late. Mind the fact we wanted more refills on our food but only had one more chance to. There were barely any other tables as I noticed around the restaurant, maybe a couple max. Our server seemed hostile and was not very attentive. She barely checked on us, i would say about 2 or 3 times. I don’t think she told us her name or even asked if everything tasted good. Seems like she wandered off somewhere to do side work or in back of house on her phone, but who am I to assume? Also had a hair in one of our shrimps. Worst experience ever at red lobster and me and my family have been coming here for years.

Shell

I have used their car wash for 2 years and it does a great job as it is touchless so no worries about scratches. So now I got their new EverWash app and purchased the top monthly package so I can keep my Jeep Cherokee looking new all month long :)

Tried to get air for tire… put 4 Quarters in…. Machine didn’t work… gas station owner told me it works fine and I shoulda put the quarters in properly! Well they are the only ones in Iowa who Charge for air!! Meanest Clerk or owner whatever she is Ever!

The car wash is severely bad. The building looks like it was abandoned. I used the car wash today and it did not live up to today's car wash standards in fact if I could get my money back I would.

Can't read screans at pumps to pay. Air pump machine has been broken for months. Staff acts miserable. Worst gas station in West DesMonies.

Most of the staff are very pleasant. Some are too talkative and spend too much time looking at products while they are scanning them, because they find them interesting. I often get double charged for an item so I always check my receipt now. And at this time stock is very low or out on a lot of items.

Just really going down hill in customer service all around. The employees are too busy chit-chatting to do their jobs correctly. the photo department can't keep orders straight and then still can't walk the photos to the front desk after "they couldn't find them". Super disappointed

The most truck-friendly Wal-Mart I've ever visited - there's even designated parking on the north side for maybe 15 trucks. I went inside to shop, and thanked several employees for giving drivers a place to park, and was told "We appreciate truck drivers", and that trucks are welcome to park overnight. I almost shed a tear. A stark contrast to many Wal-Marts across the country that are taking the opposite position, probably due to the small percentage of slob drivers that ruin it for the rest of us. This location is taking care of drivers - let's return the favor!

What I like is that it has parking for a big truck. If you park your big truck please be respectful. I don't want them to take this away from us. Great people inside. Nice selection of cheese. The baguettes are awesome. Angus beef, filet mignon, all kinds of fish. Thanks.

It's a great stop for truckers. Right next to a truck stop and they allow truck parking. They don't have Walmart's new microwave ready meals yet but the deli always has some great options

HIBACHI GRILL & SUPREME BUFFET

While visiting Des Moines, Iowa for Veterans Day. Stop by Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet. The foods here did NOT disappoint. There were tons of selection to choose from. From seafoods like crawfish, soft shell crabs, shrimps and etc. lot of selection of chicken and beefs, good variety of veggies. Salad bars was pretty stack. A lot of choices for desserts to choose from but my favorite is probably be the chocolate fountain. The hibachi grill is ok. I think the chefs might have put too much sauce on my plate cause is was a little salty. There is also Cantonese noodle soup and Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup). For a buffet place, the Pho was pretty good and flavorful that is almost remind me of homemade Pho (I got two bowls 😆). This is one of the biggest buffet I have been too in the US (I been to 50 state so I know), plus there got 4 connected room so plenty of seating. When we enter even though there was a line, we were seated right away when we got to the counter. Our servers was fast to refill our drinks and pick up our plates. Price is also reasonable at $17 per person but that might just be weekend/holiday price. Overall very satisfied with the service we received at Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet. Will definitely stop by again when we in town.

Impressive buffet! American/Chinese, Pho, Mongolian, Hibachi, and Sushi are all available! The food looked and tasted fresh! The staff is friendly and attentive! We paid $32 for two adults, including our tea! Well worth every penny!

My friends and I had a terrible experience. We went there to celebrate our friend’s birthday, we expected warm welcoming and good time. At the beginning, the staff offered drinks politely and we were happy. However, at the end the we’re looking at strangely and behaved in away to kick us out. We are extremely disappointed and didn’t expect such low level of customer service.

So much to choose from! If you can't find something you like, you aren't looking.

I like that they have a nice variety of seafood every time. Offer some American staples. Sushi bar. Create your own stir fry. Chocolate fountain.

Huge seating capacity. Around $15 per person for all you can eat.

All the food were great! Taste perfect, I love the crawfish, fried donuts, fried plantains, and mussels. Service was good, they were super fast in cleaning our table. All the food was hot and refilled all the time.

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory

Nice selection of all things chocolate! Can't wait to try some of what I bought! They do have samples to try! And about 8 or more different kinds of caramel and chocolate covered apples! They also have a nice selection of sugar free chocolates in milk and dark!! OH!! And they have puppy dog treats as well!!

What a great addition to West Des Moines! Absolutely fantastic chocolate and all kinds of covered apples.  So much fun! Friendly service at a great location.  Worth a stop!

It saddens me to say don't even bother going in here, I was at the farmers market ready to make a hefty purchase. I was waiting patiently for the women behind the counter to finish with someone else, I was the only other person there, another person walks in and without even looking at me she starts to help someone else after I had been waiting to be helped. It's a shame because I was buying sweets for staff and family. I just walked out,  I didn't realize anyone was doing so well they could just let a sale walk out the door. I hope that 2.00  dog bone sale was worth loosing the 80.00 sale I made at the chocolate place down the street. Horrible service experience and will not be back.

Went to the location, purchased fudge & hot cocoa.  The fudge I purchased wasn't what I was expecting.  Called them tonight & the guy said he was going to make it right & ship me some.

Stopped in tonight for some sweet treats. Absolutely AMAZING customer service and treats! We will be back! Merry Christmas!

This is has to be the busiest WalMart in the state. Parking can be a difficult. It is pretty easy access off the interstate. Can be challenging to find an associate for help. They all seem to be in the self-checkout area.They have someone checking your receipt when you leave. I never stop though. They have cameras and associates watch as you check your stuff out. I never stop. I’ve used the curbside pickup and it was pretty fast. They usually have at least one option for what I’m looking for. Produce is pretty basic and not always the best selections.

I have never been treated so badly by a team lead! Was there Thursday around 530. And had a decent cart of things.  Waited in the self check outs and then after finally checking out. My bf was trying to use his 15 percent off coupon.  It wouldn't work. The cashier came over. Couldn't suspend my transaction so had to cancel it , she took me to her team lead.  All she had the audacity to say , many times,  you need to just go wait in the line. Said very rudely  I explained I already rung up everything, but it got voided , again she said you need to go wait in a checkout lane , if you don't like your job find another oe..  extremely rude!  Don't know her name but started with a C..  will not go back to that location. No reason to be disrespected, could of been more professional.. I was thinking of transferring to that location  but no thanks

my friend and i went there for a girls day prep trip and Timber was working the check out. She was amazing! usually people are sulky about self checkout workers but she made our day so much better from the amazing attitude she has! such a bright employee and it was much appreciated :)

They got me on 2 accounts! They never fix charges that they have charged the wrong card constantly!!!!! I have 1 leg and just had my big toe amputated and said I need to come into the store and they never have carts for me to use much less any one disabled!!!!

Very helpful Employees with great customer service. I’ve been to a lot of Walmarts and have not received customer service like I did at the Windsor Heights store, It also seemed pretty clean to me. I’ve seen a lot of other stores with trash all over the parking lot and trash inside the store and cluttered. That was not the case here.

Great customer service, always gets the job done quickly and shows myself and my staff how to prevent the issue from happening in the future. These guys are great! We have used them for both emergency service and for routine maintence. They are fast but take the time to explain things to me and my staff teaching us things we can do to prolong the life of our equipment. Always courteous to us and our customers, and friendly!
