Des Moines Art Center

One should definitely visit the art centre if you're in Des Moines. The exhibits are truly a work of art! Also, there is ample of parking space available outside. Free admission is a bonus!

Such a great place to go and visit for free.  Beautiful works of art, really cool sculptures, great architecture of the building itself.

It was raining and we came here before our flight out of town.  The outdoors also has some nice seating and photo opportunity areas.

A real gem.  The museum is perfectly situated on a hill in a park. Wander the grounds, the expansive gardens, admire the architecture, both outside and then inside. And inside you'll find an eclectic and fierce collection of work including Basquiat, Singer Sargent and O'Keeffe to name a few. Grab a bite at the Cafe and something at the gift shop. And drop in a donation when you leave.  After all ... admission is free.

I absolutely loved my (free!) visit to the Des Moines Art Center. I came when they were working on installing a few new exhibits, but there was still plenty to see and ponder here. The staff were overall friendly and kind without being overbearing or interruptive; the fellow who welcomed me in was pleasant and talkative, but at no time did I feel beleagured by our chat. My only complaint is that in the Richard Meier building, one of the staff seemed to get very close to me as I viewed the artpieces, and another staffperson was playing music or a video on his phone, which was quite loud to begin with and echoed up into the top floor.

The art on display was quite captivating and lovely to view, and it spans a wide variety of styles, eras, and cultural origins. The temporary exhibit, Double Take, was interesting, tho I wish there had been clear signage on which photo was staged and which was candid; not knowing made it difficult for me to engage fully with the exhibit. I absolutely fell in love with Water Woman by Wangechi Mutu and kept physically and mentally returning to her. And there were plenty of other stunning pieces I keep thinking about as well.

A stroll thru the Rose Garden afterward was nice; I remain unsure as to where the sculpture garden is. Exterior signage in this way could be improved. I also was delighted by the Little Free Art Gallery by the Center's parking lot. I wish there had been materials provided to make my own piece to add, but I did take a delightful little turtle painting by an artist of the name of Alleighlee.

One major issue I noted was the Center's accesibility. I can see that this museum is trying to be an accessible space, but a few major issues stood out to me. One is that one of two disabled entrances (the one on the north side) appears to be more of a sidedoor and afterthought. The entrance on the south side of the parking lot is a closer choice, but I'd love to see a solution worked out so that people with wheelchairs or strollers can enter thru the main set of doors.

Also, the single elevator in the Meier building was not operating the day I visited. This means that the lower and upper floors could not be accessed by anyone who is unable to use the stairs. The bathroom on the lower level of the Meier building also is *mostly* accessible (plenty of space, lower paper towel dispenser, etc), aside from the heavy doors that could be an issue for some folks to get open.

Overall I absolutely loved my visit to this museum, but as an ablebodied person, I also had a lot more freedom to roam and explore than some people may have. The artwork here is beautiful and diverse, and has given me so much to ponder.

The Des Moines Art Center is always a nice place to visit. The collection is interesting and well cared for. The gift shop has high-quality unique items, and is well managed by friendly staff. The restaurant is bright and spacious.

Artistic Gates

Working with Jennifer and Jose was a breeze even though with live in a different state. They took our basic idea and created a beautiful, artistic functional gate. The gate fits tight and they even delivered it and installed it. Amazing addition to our home, thank you!

I cannot say enough wonderful things about our Screen Door Jose made us. It is unbelievably beautiful! We get so many compliments on it!! What an Artist Jose is!!! Jennifer is the sweetest......She comes out and measures and takes care of the details in the ordering process. From start o finish they toook excellent care of us!!!!! Good communication. They are very proud of their reputation and it shows not only in the product but also in how they conduct their business ☺️ You can’t find a better team out there! We are so happy I think we will be ordering a second screen door for the back of the house! Give them a visit, you won’t regret it!!!! Jose & Jennifer are good people!

We recently had 3 beautiful artistic metal gates crafted and installed by Jose to replace our worn out wooden front and side gates. The difference is amazing. They are truly works of art as well as being sturdy gates which should last many years longer than our old wooden ones in our dry and sunny climate.
Working with Jose and Jennifer was easy and both were extremely helpful in coming up with just the right designs as well as being honest and sincere people who love what they do.
Production time was only about 3 weeks and their installation was as professional as the gates themselves.

Ms. Carol is the best! I went in there twice looking for birthday gifts with a specific budget, she patiently waited for me to choose, and suggested things that are within my budget. There was no rushing, and no trying to up sale, it was the best experiences ever!

Just start here! Save yourself some time going to every shop in Albuquerque! This place will have what you want at a great price! But what truly sets this place apart is the customer service! I had a warm welcome when I walked in the door and a warm welcome when I left! Guy is a standup guy pun intended! Do not hesitate to spend your money here.

I went in expecting to find roadside touristy tschotskis like post cards and polished rocks and was amazed to find a huge selection of estate jewelry that was stunning as well as a selection of really well thought out local goods. Sweet place to get a t-shirt, postcard and phenomenal jewelry that isn’t the average tourist stuff. Best bolo tie selection I have seen in town. Don’t overlook this spot!

Outwest Furniture Inc.

Lorrie was a great help with designing a couch! Ask for her when you need help.  Make sure you don't work with the men there.  Fairly detached and awkward.  It would have been nice for them to thank me for my business but instead they were completely indifferent.  Not good.

Just a tip- they don't deliver which is somewhat of a disadvantage. Otherwise, they have a great choice of items and Lorrie is very helpful.

The selection of furniture is top notch. The pictures on the walls are outstanding and available to buy and take home to hang on your walls. It is well worth trip.

We love Outwest Furniture! The entire staff was helpful and friendly ESPECIALLY AMANDA who we worked with a lot! We had an entire house to furnish and Amanda got this done for us under budget! We don't know what we would have done without her. She is a very hard worker and very creative! Go to Outwest Furniture! You won't be disappointed!

This place is amazing. By far the best staff you’ll ever find. So helpful, so friendly and zero, I mean zero pressure. They make sure you leave with the feeling that, if I ever need furniture in the future, I’m checking here first! We were looking at a rug and they were helpful far beyond our expectations. I highly recommend checking them out.

Fortin Ironworks - The Market

This belonged to my great aunt and uncle.  We recently moved across the country and one of my most precious pieces given to me was this fireplace set.  I was close to tears when I took this to Fortin.  A very polite, friendly and accommodating gentleman restored it for me while I waited.  He was so helpful and understanding, and knew exactly how much this meant to me.  Places like this are few and far between!

Such a cool shop to check out! They have such unique items and it's so big inside there are so many different decorations, furniture, etc. to look at. The prices are a little high but it seems well worth it because I believe it's all handmade. They have a space that you can rent out for events as well. Great place to shop for gifts! The staff was very friendly and welcoming, ready to answer any questions we had. Big fan of this place, I highly recommend!

A kind gesture goes a long way. I called Fortin 15 minutes before they were going to close and spoke to Mike. He said if I could make it in, in the next few minutes they would take a look at my chair that needed repaired. I walked in w/the chair, and he and Trevor looked at my chair and after explaining my short timeline, Trevor did a solid and took the chair into the shop and made the adjustments in real time. I can't express my appreciation and gratitude for their patiences, kind act of service and excellent work. Thanks fellas!

We hired Fortin Ironworks to install a six foot tall fence on one side of our property to keep the deer out. It was a very positive experience from the estimator to the installation. They communicated the project expectations and time frame very well. We were so happy with the quality of the work that we had the company make a fence for the opposite side of our property. Excellent work, excellent communication and no more deer. Thank you Fortin Ironworks!

Ideation Orange

Ideation Orange did a fantastic job for outdoor signage at our dental practice Detroit Dental Company.  They were an absolute pleasure to work with and provided several different combinations of exterior design for us to choose from.

Ideation does a beautiful design job on any project! The company I work for needed a retractable banner and we were on a tight deadline. Ideation was so fast and efficient. They assured me the banner would be ready, and it was ready even before the proposed deadline. They demonstrated the correct way to use the banner when I picked it up. Mo, Jon and Brian were so great to work with!

Ideation Orange was absolutely wonderful to work with. They helped us design and execute multiple projects throughout our new space (see pictures) with ease and professionalism. I, without a doubt, highly recommend the IO team!

We met the team at Ideation Orange late in our construction schedule for a new apartment project we were developing, and truthfully, late to meet our needs and deadlines.  But liking the team members and seeing some of their previous work and ideas, we asked them if they could meet our schedule?  They reviewed their production timeline, said they would be able to assist us if we gave them timely responses to their concept plans and together we achieved our production deadlines, loved their creative ideas, and met our very tight budget requirements.  We couldn't have asked for a better partner to help us with our project.

The entire experience working with Ideation Orange was amazing. From the first meeting with the owner and design team down to the implementation of each process was wonderful.  The installers added to my amazement because they worked so efficiently with very little disruption to our staff. I would recommend Ideation Orange to anyone wanting to transform their space.

Hi N Dry / Hi and Dry - Blow Dry Bar

Scheduled an appointment for Dutch braids with Simone. She provided quality service & my braids look great. She asked questions to ensure I was totally happy with the outcome of my braids.

However, the reason for 4 stars is that prices are not accurately reflected on the website. Also, there was not enough money in the register to give change. Be sure to bring a card to ensure this doesn’t happen to you! I hope that the site will be updated with proper pricing.

I also appreciate the loyalty card that Simone gave me to redeem 50% off or a free blowout.

I look forward to returning in the future.

Love having a Dry Bar so close to home! This place had a super fun vibe with vintage clothing and art for sale and of course...beautiful blow outs. Simone took great care of me. I was able to walk in and get my blowout right away. I highly recommend you check out this spot in the Vibe district!

This place has an amazing artistic and aesthetic vibe with easy access. The warmth and openness of both the atmosphere and the talented staff is a winning combination. Val was so kind to host an educational Work Tour for our area youth, and her and her staff enthusiastically shared their impressive vision, process details, and expertise in the salon industry.  This is the perfect spot for both locals and tourists to pop in and receive royal treatment~ Definitely will be back and refer to many friends and family! Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!

The best of the best!! My hair had never felt better, blow outs changed my life and to be honest i hate the day i have to wash because i wanna turn around run back for another blow out. i decided to take the leap and chop my hair as it needed it and thanks to HinDry i LOVE it!! the vibes are incredible, place is beautiful and so is the owner and people. 10/10 i’ll never go anywhere else! 🫶

This is the place to go if you need a quick blow dry or some cute braids before going out or I’ve even just stumbled in before work and they were able to hook me up with a cute style. Definitely a must go! Picture is from several hours later

La Casa de Juan

The breakfasts were really delicious, and having the piano playing in the background was wonderful. There is plenty of space outside and inside.

Things that could improve: the coffee isn't good and neither are the pastries

Prices are very high for the quality. The place is beautiful and peaceful, good to work drinking a coffee, or to go in groups for a meeting with a coffee.

We were a party of five. Stopped in for coffee and took advantage of some new items. FLAT WHITE & AFFOGATO.  All were pleased.

Just love it here. Great surroundings, lovely staff and the food is really nice. Live music too, today. La Casa de Juan is our go to place for a relaxing meal/drink.

Gran visita!
Caro, como todo el personal, es una persona muy culta y nos explicó todo el proceso de creación de las piezas en exhibición—que son todas únicas.
Y Sergio fue un gran guía de degustación del mezcal. Pasamos un rato muy ameno y aprendimos mucho! Además de que el edificio es una joya histórica y arquitectónica. Seguro regreso!

Bonito y elegante lugar, excelente atención, los mezcales son de lujo, oferta de degustación y cocteles… nice place!
