Curly hair can be a chore! We struggle & struggle to find someone who knows how to best cut our hair. The wrong cut is just awful 😞 Every day a fight to style it! And trying a new stylist is scary. I had to. So glad that I did! A hidden jewel presents: Nichol is the mastermind behind Anchorage’s best curly hair secret, Salon Ginger. 1st clue: fabulous, organic, B Corp, Italian Davines products lavishly displayed everywhere, great choice…but there’s more. Nichol has literally been trained in EVERY MAJOR CUTTING TECHNIQUE FOR CURLY HAIR. I nearly choked as I learned this. How is it I didn’t know about you???! I’ve never met anyone close to her ability & training. Confessions: Now that I’ve discovered this super talented person, I selfishly want to keep her all to myself & NEVER have my hair done by anyone else again! You Curly Girls know what I mean 🤣 But, I really have to share her skills with every  Curly Girl who might read this because it hurts my eyes & heart to see so many of you people settling for bad curly cuts done elsewhere. I’ve been there, they cost a freaking fortune & frankly super suck! Heidi did such a wonderful job with my balayage! (I have the salon do my bleach and I do the fashion color). She was gentle and attentive; listened to what I wanted and took excellent care of me throughout my appointment. I felt the service was affordable compared to other salon experiences I have had and I will definitely return to see Heidi!

She also trimmed my hair and undercut and did a great job!

I have wavy/curly hair and Nicole knows exactly what to do. Her shampoo and conditioner recommendations are perfect for my hair type. I’ve gone to so many salons where they just recommend the same thing for every curl or they say they know how to cut your hair but they don’t. I’ve been so impressed with Nicole since my first visit.

They did a great job with my hair. Super friendly and polite. If I lived in the area, I would go back.

The Alaska Club Fairbanks West

My days are super busy with work, kids, and activities - the AK Club's zoom workout for Group Power fits with my schedule and the trainers are AMAZING. I feel energized and productive without feeling like it's adding to my hectic day.

I love this club.  I have met wonderful workout friends. We use the back classroom every day. We are there 5-6 days a week.

Dave keeps the old equipment functioning.

The only problem is the club needs daily cleaning.  Sometimes we have to clean the floors before putting our mats down. I purchased mops that attach to our shoes and we mop the floors before exercising.

The Alaska Club Fairbanks West is a great place to work out. Quiet, no kids running around. Everyone is friendly. My only complaint regarding the club is it is filthy. Floors don't get cleaned enough. I have left several messages ( along with others) on the whiteboard but messages get erased then nothing happens. Dave who works on the machines is on top of it! I would suggest we hire someone to clean the gym properly!

The place is 8/10 times filthy. The equipment compared to the south location, is hand me down quality AT BEST. For the price we pay a month for a Family($165)... it's nearly not worth it but because of limited options (which AK CLUB knows)... they're out to take advantage of most of us here in FAI. Like I said, limited options and due to location some of us have no choice. For the price all of us pay... you'd think a janitor is affordable beyond minimum wage and effort, and some major equipment upgrades.

The equipment is old. Dave does his best to keep it all going. I have written on board to have place clean, but the only thing that gets cleaned is board! The club needs to hire a responsible cleaning person. I love the club and do enjoy working out there. One needs to be blind of the filth.

Planet Fitness

I like the location, the employees seem happy to be there, sometimes you find a couple of pieces of equipment out of order but it doesn't seem too long for them to fix them. I like the several sections it has been created for specific workouts. Unfortunately I frequently observe individuals monopolizing equipment, especially in the 30 min circuit area, which explicitly states - and even uses red and green lights to show - that the machine should be used for 1 minute, cleaned in the 30 second period, and vacated for the next member to use.

It's one of my favorite locations of PF! Located in Midtown, the guests are pretty laid back at this location. The people that complain think of the time you're going in to work out, is it peak times? The Staff are amazing with customer service and made my fitness journey much easier to stay on track even on my bad days! I'm a regular, so most afternoon/night staff know me by now.

Got this gym for convenience and price. Most of the machines are alright. The free weight stations are almost always getting hogged by muscle heads lol. Seriously though they camp there forever. With how crowded this place is it would help to expand or open more locations. It would be nice if they hired janitorial staff. The floors are filthy this winter in the gym and locker rooms. I am at the gym for about 2 hours at a time I've never seen staff wipe machines down. I always clean the machines after I use them but not everyone does. The showers during peak times are so chilly. The showers are also dirty everytime I use them. They have not been cleaned in some time. There's grit and mildew buildup in them. Shower slippers are a must. MRSA and warts are things I try to avoid.

The thing i did not like about as a first time or new user of the amenities for black card members which are the massages, front personels arent very helpful with it. One time a guy helped with the massage chair and then i asked for help when the massage turned off, i said i needed to use it more & i believe i accidentally turned or pressed it off and no one helped so i left.

Their midtown facility is clean and spacious. I didn't have any problem hopping into whichever station (e.g. treadmill, circuit, free weights) I felt like working in.
Staff is friendly, capable, helpful, and kind. ... Also patient walking this noob through the check-in process.

Alaska Fitness

A really nice gym with a friendly staff. The equipment is in good condition and the locker rooms are clean and well maintained.  The gym is usually not crowded and they have a good day rate if you are traveling.  Highly recommended.

Worked out here for a week before my Denali trip.

Paid $45 for a week long pass which seemed reasonable for Anchorage.

Staff were super friendly and helpful.

Facilities were really good and there is everything you might need both for a strength and cardio workout.

The equipment is really well thought out.

The hours are really good as they’re open until
11pm even on holidays.

Really loved this gym, the environment and overall atmosphere was awesome for the price. But it seems since post COVID things have gone downhill. They seem to be slowly turning into planet fitness and supporting people who film others to gym shame on social media. After calling someone out on gym shaming the staff all targeted me as the problem when I was just trying to keep the same positive atmosphere I was so accustomed to for my 9 or 10 year membership I had. I have since cancelled as I could just pay $10 for a planet fitness membership for the same treatment.

This is an awesome gym! The staff is very friendly. The whole place is clean and has lots of equipment to use. I got a whole week pass for a great price. The gym is open for great hours and they were even open on the holiday. They have shakes and energy drinks if you need one and comfy places to sit if you are waiting for an Uber or something.

I weight lift regulalry and had no problem getting a good lift in for all body parts each time I went. They have powerlifiting equipment like benches, racks and deadlift platforms. They have hammerstrength equipment and good accessory machines too. Also a ton of kettlebells for ab/core work. I love this gym and will be back ASAP!

You Beauty Lounge

I was thrilled to meet Master Stylist ISI at You Beauty Lounge. He took my dry damaged processed hair and my request to make it look fabulously rich in color and frame my face lightly and did an amazing job. The color is rich and vibrant. The cut has a long frame on my face to support easy style days. He also masterfully kept my length, trimmed the damaged away, and layering the ends to lay beautifully and to style nicely on my up style days. You Beauty Lounge and stylist ISI took very good care of me and I am happy to recommend them.

Isi just did my hair- balayage and cut. I’m not over exaggerating when I say this is the best hair cut and color I’ve ever had. And it was fast. Which if you’ve ever done highlights you know you dread the amount of time sitting there. I gave little direction and it’s like he plucked a picture from my imagination and that’s what he did. He just got it. I always say the worst thing you can do to my hair is make it look like nothing happened to it, which happens too often because the stylist is scared to cut too much or do the short and many many layers that I ask for to add dimension. Isi has no fear. He just goes for it and it is such a relief to find a stylist that hits the mark. That’s my person going forward when it comes to my hair. Thank you Isi!!!!

Wonderful experience for my first time here!! Kira went above and beyond transforming my suggestions from a simple cut/style to a cut/styled layers/highlight and stayed past her shift time to assist!! I arrived with long tangly, sun bleached, uneven, hair with split ends. I left with long smooth, flowing, silky, smelling like roses, sun kissed colors this time made with love. ❤️

Isi and Phoebe did a phenomenal job with hair and make up for my daughters wedding in Eagle River, AK. They arrived on time, were extremely professional, and did an amazing job with the bride, mother-of-the bride and bridesmaids. Everyone was super happy! I would highly recommend You Beauty Lounge.

There hair cuts are great 5/5 brow tint 4/5 the color is amazing, the way they distribute the color isn’t the best there brow wax I would not recommend they didn’t do a correct job my right side is what they did the left side is what I did then there is a picture of the end result what I had to fix at home.

Kasey is super friendly, welcoming and made me feel comfortable. Her space is clean, warm and relaxing. Sessions seem to go by quick; possibly a combination of her being so great at her craft and funny conversations.

So thankful to have and esthetician that cares, is efficient yet gentle and leave me bump free! I’ve been getting Brazilians for 10 years and Kasey is the only one to keep me bump free!

Kasey is a great estitician and her salon is very clean and comfortable. She is very experienced and caring.

Go early and beat the crowds 😆.  However, during peak hours there's still access and availability of exercise machinery and treadmills. Clean, relaxed environment. Staff are very helpful and courteous! Only cons and why I gave 4🌟 is the wifi sometimes does not connect. Maybe it's just me but recently had problems with that. Other than that, no issues!

Great for the price. I have been going here for a few years. The blond man with glasses is pretty rude and I'm now considering leaving. I've never had a problem with anyone before. Maybe filter staff a little better moving forward.

The gym is clean. Always a lot of people and it is so difficult to cancel a membership. You can’t just call and cancel you need to go down to the gym. That’s not easy to do when you are in college so you just get charged more. OR they tell you to write a letter to them explaining why.

Black card coming in clutch. Visiting from Indiana and called ahead to make sure the showers were open as well.

Once onsite, the staff were genuinely helpful and the entire place was super clean. I would say the layout is pretty backwards with the locker rooms in the back corner. Walking past people in the middle of their workout while in full clothes and flip flops was a bit weird, but that's the only thing worth mentioning. Lovely little corner and great team!

The Alaska Club Downtown

Such a great little gym in the heart of downtown. The weight equipment is amazing with a squat rack and deadlift platform and heaps of machines. It’s all clean and new and the guy at the counter was nice too.
It’s not cheap for a casual day pass, with $20 USD the cost for this. But I did the online form thing for a free pass so got a session here for free. Great gym if you’re into strength training.
I think there was a big cardio area upstairs but I didn’t go up there so not 100%

6 weeks of sessions with a Trainer was the best investment I made for myself.  Christian was great!  He helped me greatly on my fitness journey
Alaska Club Summit

Unhappy was told by 2 staffs they will come to hydromassage room but didn't . Time was Set at 1pm. I've called front desk afew times and empty promises to come see what's the problem but none shown up left hydromassage room 1:23pm .

The downtown club is small but very convenient.  I have made several suggestions for improvements and my voice was heard, thanks to the attentiveness of Charles.  Charles is wonderful and he clearly takes pride and ownership in The AK Club (he is not the owner).   The other staff downtown are great too.  My experiences at the downtown club have always been positive but even better with Charles at the helm.

Such a great find on my work trip to Anchorage!!! I am here twice a year for work and a lot of hotels don’t have fitness facilities… problem solved!!! This place has EVERYTHING!! Super clean and absolutely welcoming place to work out! I’m training for a fitness show and this place fulfills all my training needs!
Nicest staff EVER! Charles and Taylor are the best people! Highly recommend this place for locals or anyone from out of town needing to get a solid workout in!

The Alaska Club West

Group Blast is such a fun and dynamic class!  Allison is always energetic and prepared!  Her timing, cuing, and form are impeccable.  A strong and athletic class, focusing  on agility and cardio strength and endurance.

Alaska club is a great, friendly, upbeat environment. I enjoy the yoga and Pilates classes. Debbie and Julie are great instructors. Basically all the instructors are great that I’ve had. We have enjoyed the club for 13 yrs. Front staff are friendly more now than before. It cost a bit more but you also get to enjoy the classes.

I'm only writing this review because they sent me an email. Among the bad experiences that I have had and I have not given up because of a pseudo instructor who yelled at me into the microphone in the middle of class, "pathetic" that was what Leah K yelled at me, when I started and I had a Significantly overweight, that at the time I made my complaint and they only responded "I'm not going to talk about that" I will never forget that horrible experience because apart from that that woman was very rude and racist to me, making ridiculous and absurd comments about me culture and my nationality. But they didn't want to talk about that, the bosses of that pseudo instructor, who couldn't stop me from wanting to continue with my weight loss. I just stopped attending her class and I started doing my routines based on YouTube and Instagram videos, I don't want to have that woman in my life around again, it was a horrible traumatic experience and I don't wish this horrible experience to anyone else. I can only say that the facilities are good, not the best because of a lack of cleaning staff in the women's bathrooms. Broken appliances or machines take a long time to be repaired. I don't have anything to say about the classes because I don't go to any of them, only with Dana, who she is fantastic. Not other classes, I wouldn't want to have the horrible experience I had before. I just go do my thing without talking to anyone and that's it. That's all I can say about the West club. The location of the place is very good

Hannah, personal trainer at the Alaska Club, is the best! She is so thoughtful in her workouts, she is mindful of personal abilities and really a big help  to work on the full healthy body and mind experience!

Shelley teaches an amazing Group Power class! All body muscle groups, functional strength training, very professional, and I am seeing the difference!

The Alaska Club For Women

i really love the Alaska club for women, it is always clearer that the West club , the people are friendly and thoughtful and if is just the best though to know that we women have a place where we can just come and let our hair down and be comfortable i. our own gym, without having men look at us especially when we don't feel our best.

The AK club is definitely worth the price tag. They offer excellent classes with wonderful instructors. The clubs are clean and equipment is well-kept. The women's club is beautiful; I frequently go twice a day. I work out in the morning and often pop over after work to sit in the hot tub and steam room. The AK clubs are located all over the Anchorage area and in the valley as well. The clubs have improved my fitness and my mental health during the long Alaska winters.

My wife was using the Women’s side of the club when our daughter began showing hunger cues. She went back to the Women’s side with our daughter to use the facility to nurse her and was asked to walk all the way across to the general public side to feed her because it’s 21+ only. Why have a Women’s side of the facility if you can’t even support the women using it? Very inconvenient and rude. Support your women by providing them with a safe place to do things like this if they need it.

*Update*
Their response made it sound like I was trying to be with my wife while she nursed our daughter. We both entered in the AK club through the Women’s side to drop off our two small children in childcare (if you use this location you know the drop off is much closer to the Women’s side). They clearly watched the footage of us coming in and are now twisting the truth. My wife went into the Women’s Club locker room and the staff followed her in and asked her to go elsewhere.
Pursuant to the FSLA laws, a woman should have a place other than a restroom to nurse, thus entering the women’s club with our baby, however, was told she could not. She was then obligated to nurse in the hallway.

This was my first experience with a women’s only gym. The staff is friendly and the facility is clean. They have plenty of equipment needed for an effective workout! There’s a squat rack, smith machine, barbells, kettle bells, machines, etc. The locker room is spacious and still provides your sauna, steam room, and whirlpool. Overall, 10/10. I only use the Women’s gym ✨

I visited this gym while on vacation. The Manager, Charles, was exceptionally professional, welcoming and accommodating. This facility offers many options from the type of equipment to the group fitness classes available. The gym is pristine and has established a mindful culture of health and safety standards during COVID-19. The women’s locker room is elegant and spacious includes a hot tub and plenty of large, clean showers. The staff is friendly, and helpful too.

If I lived in Anchorage, I would have a membership here.
