Thursday, July 13, we had five windows replaced by this great company. Great product and price. The crew that installed them were amazing.
We will be getting a quote on 7 more windows. We highly recommend this company.

I hired Mel Harris Company to completely re side my home and shop. The work they did is amazing. The whole job has improved the looks and value of my home. The product I chose is a polar siding with built in insulation. It is very sturdy and has improved the ‘R’ value rating of my home. The folks doing the work were friendly and courteous. I have security cameras around my home and they accidentally damaged one of them. They replaced it immediately. This was a very big job and they completed it in about a week. I am very pleased and would use them again.

From the get-go, we had a wonderful experience, from Brent Harris arriving at our house to arrange our estimate, to Brian coming to measure up, to the most excellent Josh, Pony, and John, who did an incredible top notch job on our roof.
Our opinion was formed from their very first day on the job. They worked tirelessly to quickly remove most of the old roof, then worked through a sudden snow storm in freezing cold temperatures, preparing the roof against any damage from the snow.
We have been nothing short of impressed with this crew through everything. Josh, Pony, and John worked quickly, precisely, calmly, and with absolute integrity throughout the whole process.
I would recommend Mel Harris Roofing Company 100%, especially Josh, Pony, and John who were always extremely pleasant, polite, professional, competent, and ultra-meticulous in their work.  FIVE STARS!

Only bad i have is I would have liked the owner to be more personable instead of all about business as a business owner myself i found if you treat customers like family and do good work they will always be there and spread good words, I will say I am very picky this is first time I've paid a company to do work on my home and i had them do metal roof and metal siding.The boss man Brian blew my mind how talented, knowledgeable, hard working, and a perfectionist he is. I hope he is very well taken care of its much deserved for sure. The roofing crew Josh and Derik aka the (pony) are fantastic as well they great guys! made sure I was happy with everything and did everything to my expectations and more. This was a long and somewhat stressful experience just because of the type of person iam but I will and always will recommend this company for there great work and going above and beyond my expectations. Thank You!

Brothers Ace Hardware

They're handy being right here in town and almost always have what I need without having to go to a big "box" store.

The manager in the Dept for tools and lawn and garden. They had a craftsmen wet dry vac advertised for 99 with 20 off with rewards card. First he didn’t want to open to check to see if it had the attachment that I wanted. Which it did. At check out rang it up for 99 dollars. Would not try and offer discount. Walked out probably list my business I’ll go to Ace in Charles City. He got an attitude immediately.

Brothers Ace Hardware in Clear Lake Iowa is the best. They have a little of everything. The employees are great and very helpful.

I've bought a chainsaw, pet food, plants and grill there, in the last year or so.  Staff helpful, as well.  Worked out great!

Love the store. People are just not friendly!

Prairie Grove Ace Hardware

Ordered an item online, drove down a few minutes later, and they had our order ready for pickup. Sign up for rewards because they will pay off for great discounts. Stop on by and shop locally whenever possible.

This place is like stepping back a couple of decades in time, and I mean that in the best way. Good selection of merchandise and good old fashioned customer service.

True customer service. They ask if you need help finding anything and will walk you to it. They have a great selection and the new owners and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Probably my favorite store on the planet. If they don’t have an item you probably didn’t really need it. The staff makes you feel like family and are knowledgeable about their products.

You know, I never thought I’d say this about this place but I am. The help flat sucks, aside from the owner few people know anything in this place and they don’t care about helping you either. They have great product selection, but if you can’t help yourself then you’re out of luck.

The Home Depot

Best customer service experience! Elisa did above and beyond for me, showed empathy to my situation, took ownership and did a follow up. She tried several ways to find a solution for me and made sure I got my order after having a hard time placing it as a will call in the store. She even came with some help to help me load my items to my car , and  offered a hug which I really needed. Elisa, thank you for taking the extra mile for me. I want to express my thank you to Sophia too. She shared tips based on personal experiences, provided needed information on tool rental and showed empathy. Thank you Sophia for the water bottle. I truly needed that in that moment.

DO NOT BUY CHRISTMAS TREES HERE. For the past two years I’ve gotten a tree here and I’ve watered them immediately after getting them home and they are already dead and don’t take water. None of the trees are watered at Home Depot it’s very obvious, will not make this mistake again

The paint employees at this store were very helpful and friendly. The line was very long but the two employees worked very quickly and got through it while answering all my questions. Would rate 5 stars but manager Isa was rude to the employees and customers while I was there and it was a bit off putting. She very loudly yelled at them and told them they should be in the isles stocking shelves when there was a very long line and only 2 of them there. A little embarrassing and feel bad for the employees. 2 stars for Isa, 5 for employees.

Terrible coordination with 3rd parties they work with. I have ordered a garage opener and they have lost the order for more than a month. I had dozen calls with their staffs and the 3rd party installer. The 3rd party installer company never picks a call and all calls go to voice mail straight. After 6 times no responses after voicemail I started wondering if that company exists at all. Homedepot did nothing but telling me that they will have someone contact the installer and call me back, then there was no follow up- which happened 5 times straight. I spoke two store managers for another five times and nothing got escalated and no one followed as they promised they would. I asked the order status or tracking number to see if the part was actually delivered to the installer. HD says they don’t know it. What kind of customer service is this? They just sold a part that nobody know where it is and had me pay $$$ without any deliverable.

The delivery company HD uses is awful! It's such a nightmare, they are ridiculous. They stole my fridge which I requested to move to the garage WITHOUT MY CONSENT. They also did not install my new fridge. I had to hire a professional plumber to do it and pay extra money on the top of what I paid. The store manager at Boulder was very helpful and nice to interfere and resolve the issue. If you wanna buy from Home Depot, just pick it up. Don't use their delivery service.

School of Rock

My son has taken drum lessons for most of his life, and plays in all of the school ensembles. The autonomy to choose and rehearse their own music makes SOR the shining star in my son's musical circle. Thank you!

School of Rock Boulder is wonderful - staff, instructors are so welcoming and of inspired both of all 3 of my kids did not only learn their instrument but also develop a love of music and new genres. Thank you SOR!

School of Rock is a really incredible place, full of wonderful staff and students.  We decided to try it out for our son because he was feeling very isolated during the pandemic.  The staff at School of Rock have amazing abilities when it comes to the performances they are able to elicit from the kids.  I imagine that trying to coordinate a group of 10-17 year olds into a cohesive band must be akin to herding cats, but School of Rock clearly has some good tricks up their sleeve.

School of Rock has been the one positive, steady thing that has kept our son afloat during the pandemic.  His experience there has greatly improved his self-confidence and we've seen a huge advancement of his abilities in less than a year.

School of Rock is a wonderful community of musicians that really know how to support and encourage kids. They meet kids on their level and work with what they've got.

I'm an adult who has done 6 seasons of the private lesson/performance band combination.  Each of these have been GREAT, from the quality of the instructors, my improvement as an individual drummer and the different benefits of playing live with other musicians under the guidance of multi-instrumental and experienced band directors. In this part of the "package", I've worked on many songs at the same time vs. 1 or 2 when I've had private lessons only, outside of SoR.

In addition, the skills one picks up playing in a group significantly boost ones' overall  level of musicianship. Finally, I've made new friends and a few close ones, each of the three seasons..this is the social benefit.  Spending some time each week with other people who like to play instruments and are willing to work on songs of the same genre is huge.

Finally, the opportunity to perform together, live, is another huge benefit to playing with the SoR vs with a private instructor. Each of the seasons that I've participated, we've done 2 end of season shows to perform the 12 or so songs we've worked up over the course of that show season.  This is exciting and another type of growth experience as it may test nerves or push one to a new level of ability and confidence, depending on the person and readiness of the band as a whole.

WORTH EVERY PENNY. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Incredibly friendly, welcoming staff and teachers who helped my 2nd and 3rd grader figure out which classes to select.  My kids are loving music right now, and asking to learn to play an additional instrument.  They are excited about School of Rock camps this summer, and it's cool to see my son walk up to the piano on his own and start playing a song.  Well done School of Rock!

McGuckin Hardware

Had the 4oz isobutane fuel canisters that REI did not. A really cool place with quality items, a little bit of anything you could need and nice folks too! Definitely not your average hardware store!

Been coming here for decades, hands down the best hardware store with the best service. Today, like always, someone asked me how they could help within minutes of stepping into the store. The good folks here also know what they’re talking about unlike the big box discount stores. Please keep the tradition going!

7/4/22- I'm not sure if you should call this place a hardware store or not. They spend more room on socks then they do for kitchen or bath features but together. This is more like a store of the random. If you are looking for something specific they may not have it but you may just see something you want in the toy section. They even have a school supply/office section. They also have a pet section that is bigger then most grocery stores have.

This is the most amazing store for service and range of products.
Here is the list of items I went in to purchase:- Mortar and Pestle, Distilled water, Gas for barbeque, Food Scale - guess what ? They had everything on my list!!
I friggin love this place!!

Pretty disgusting that the staff here continue to sell a product expired by months…this was purchased 10/24/23 product expired 4/15/23.

*they responded on 10/25/23 claiming they check inventory every 2 weeks but there is no way they actually do considering my friend purchased the same product months ago that was also expired, a company full of liars and I will never spend my money at this store ever again. You’ve just made a lifelong Home Depot customer out of me.

Branson West Hardware

Great place to do business.  If they don't have it, you don't need it!  Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff.  My go to place for all the projects around the house.

Tend to shop here quite frequently for work. They have a vast array of products from plumbing supplies, tools of all sorts, lawn and garden products and a full service paint center. Highly recommended for your home needs. And as a bonus ask for help because they know how to help you find what they need.

This is my go to hardware store. I’m constantly surprised at how complete their inventory is and how quickly I can get what I need and out the door.

Always well staffed with folks that are both helpful and friendly. Polar opposite of the big box stores plus I’m happy to support a smaller franchise business in the process.

Moore Lumber Ace Hardware & Paint

I needed to work on my chicken coop, which included installing a shelf, a roost bar, mounting a heat panel, and insulating the building. I went into this Ace with a vague idea of what I needed and a very rough sketch.

I was immediately greeted at the door by the employees and asked if I needed help. I explained my project to them and Dave K jumped on board to help me. He took the time to walk me through the store to make sure I had everything I needed for this project. He made very educated recommendations as to what I might need without being overbearing. I really appreciated his assistance with this project. Because of Dave’s help it turned out way better than I could have done on my own. My chickens are grateful.

I have been in this Ace several times since moving into the neighborhood and I have had a great experience every time. The employees are consistently knowledgeable  friendly and helpful.

Poorly implemented point of service systems mixed with poor management lead to inability to make a purchase. The employees were great and helped me find the electrical components I needed quickly.
The problem was checkout. The system flagged one of the items as not being in inventory and locked up the system until a manager reviewed and entered their credentials. Problem is that there was only one manager on duty and they were sequestered in the office on the phone and would not respond. After 5-10 minutes of waiting, during which the cashier tried multiple times to get the manager to override, I had to walk out with nothing. This was incredibly disappointing for a place I have been frequenting for two decades, and I felt bad for the cashier who must have been very embarrassed.
Technology is great - I love it, but poorly or partially implemented technology can make life a living hell, especially when mixed with management that doesn’t seem to value customers. I did try to give them the benefit of the doubt, but at some point you ask the person on the phone to hold and you take care of the immediate, in-person issue. Better yet, you have a delegate who has been trained and authorized so that you don’t become the bottleneck. I thought that maybe it was a critical call, but after I heard something to the effect of, “hey princess” drift down from their office I began to strongly doubt the criticality.
Unfortunately, now I don’t have the supplies I need. Thankfully though I don’t have to go too much farther to find another place that has what I need. This experience has inconvenienced me today, but the most unfortunate part is that I will now think twice about going here and may choose a location that has been more reliable, even if it’s a little farther.

Horrible customer service!! Sold me pellets 3 months ago. Still don’t have them on December 1st and ZERO ETA!! They lied and blamed the manufacturer but I called the manufacturer and they have been sending trucks. This whole pellet delivery is a total joke. They’re the only game in town for quality pellets and they just don’t care!!! So frustrating I’ll drive down to Denver before giving these clowns any more money!!!

I like this Ace store a lot more since the renovation. While they cannot compete with larger stores in terms of sheer variety, they definitely have a great selection of key essentials. The staff at this particular branch is also very helpful and friendly. My only wish would be that they stayed open until 7pm.

I really like this store, and I prefer shopping locally over going to the Big Box. In particular, I recently had an issue with a large expensive item, and they bent over backwards to rectify the situation. After reading other comments, I disregard most of the negative critiques. Lots of whining over trivial matters. Yes, their parking lot is a bit tight, and maybe their prices are a tad higher on some things, but they are always my first stop, and they usually have what I need. SHOP LOCALLY!

Flooring America - Mason City

Absolutely the easiest and most enjoyable experience I’ve ever had with a home improvement project! Mike is very good at what he does and knew just how to guide me through the process of choosing my new carpet. I would recommend Mike Duitscher and Flooring America 100% over any other flooring business! Thank you so much!

A couple of friends used Flooring America to get both carpet and laminate throughout their entire house and it looked so good we decided to pull the trigger on redoing our kitchen flooring.
We decided on a sheet vinyl (very 90’s I know but it’s what best fit our home situation) and it turned out killer! Just amazingly different! A completely new feel! Very well done and was installed quickly. Here are a couple before and after pics.

We were doing a complete home remodel/addition and I needed to get flooring lined up, so I stopped in to Flooring America in November to see what they had.  I was very impressed by the brands they carried, the number of samples and the affordable price ranges!  Mindi Martinson was wonderful!  She was very professional, knowledgeable and so helpful.  I was very specific on the color I had in mind and price range.  Mindi helped me find some great samples to take home and try.  I ended up going with the Karastan Refined Forest Collection in Fawn.  We love it.  It is excellent quality at an affordable price.  It has beautiful, real-looking grain, a matte finish which is fabulous and does not show dirt and feels good to walk on with bare feet!  I cannot say enough about this flooring.  Our installer, Brian Sliger was great.  He was very professional and so easy to be around.  He kept me informed of any concerns that he had.  Our house is older and with a new addition, there were some challenges with uneven spots.  Brian took his time and worked very hard at making the floor perfect.  And that’s how it looks!  We have gotten so many compliments already.  Mindi and Brian made this part of our remodel go so smoothly and I cannot thank them enough!  We highly recommend going to Flooring America in Mason City!

We stopped in the store back in December so that we could pick out flooring for two whole levels of our home. We were looking at luxury vinyl for our main level kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, and living area. In the 2 bedrooms, stairs, and the 2 bedrooms upstairs we chose carpet. Dan helped us choose what would work the best and came to measure for us. James came and did a fantastic job for us in March. He takes pride in his work and that meant a lot to us. Overall a great experience!

Very happy with my experience at Flooring America and our rep Daniel Miller was so easy to work with and ensured this was all a great experience. We were the first to use this color of flooring and it worked out great! Very happy!

Evergreen Ace Hardware & Paint

Employees here are grouchy. One time a woman was playing violin in the parking lot. Just sharing her skill and positivity. As I walked in, one of the employees (a lady in her mid 40s) came out and started yelling at the musician. Made me turn around and leave. Be kind to others.

Now I know why they call it the friendly place...and free popcorn to munch while shopping!

Erroll helped me yesterday with a trailer chain.  He was amazingly friendly and helpful.  Great service!

In every area, this hardware store is outstanding.  All the staff (cashiers, floor personnel, store manager) are engaged, truly happy to help and be there in the first place, and aren’t done until the customer has exactly what is needed.  And that goal isn’t simply pointing you at the requested item and moving on, it is directing their complete attention to each and every customer.

The store may seem small at first, but as a maintenance person, I see depth in all the right areas, and very broad in scope.   Without question, this is my go-to hardware store, especially when time is tight and I have to make the right call about who will have it.  This store does and will have the hardware I need.  I should also add that in my experience, Ace-branded merchandise, though sometimes more expensive, is superior to on-line or big box offerings.
In a word, you get what you paid for.

For me, this store reminds me of how exceptional and important well-run locally-owned small businesses are, when owned and run by people who have expertise in their field (here hardware), and who train and treat their employees with respect, all of which results in an enjoyable, completely satisfying and successful visit every time.  This place is the real deal.

Everything is super expensive, but they do have some hard to find stuff.
