Literally the best customer service I’ve ever received or experienced. The food was great and the waitstaff was so nice. Tim Palla was so fun and everyone in our group was so pleased. Lisa Spriggs made the organizing of our women’s retreat so easy. She’s great to work with. From the top down, every employee was catering and personable. I will undoubtedly return and recommend the lodge! Hands down the best place ever! Beautiful views and comfy rooms!
Beautiful setting, loved the view, trails, and pool. Rooms could have more sound deadening (and I believe we stayed in an updated room). We were on 3rd floor which is under construction at this time, but construction did not bother us, just the "thinness" of the walls between rooms. 2 nights was the perfect amount of time for us here.
We went for lunch after church on Father's day. Our server was friendly and attentive and overall did an excellent job. Th appetizers were very large and tasted good. The hamburgers were good size and cooked to perfection. The shredded pork was very good as well.
Paid for room with a view all you can see is leaves. Barely enough hot water to shower. Had to play with commode handle to get it to quite running. Sink faucet leaked when turned on. Slamming doors all thru the night. Snacks in vending machines were stall. Food in the restaurant was very good. I understand you are remodeling but none of or issues were due to remodeling. We will not be staying or recommending Shawnee. Other Lodges we have stayed in have been amazing. Hopefully once your remodel is completed Shawnee will be upto the others standards.
I made my reservation for our family reunion on February 20th 2023. When I made my reservation I was told that the lodge would be fully functional but that there could be SOME construction but the room would be completely finished and our stay wouldn't be impacted. In the past we've had other issues with state parks so I asked if everything else in the lodge was functional, including pools/hot tubs/etc and was assured everything was working correctly. We arrived for our reunion on June 19th, only to find out that our rooms were NOT finished and they were doing heavy renovations on the third floor, the indoor pool was not working, and the hot tub had been non-working for at least four months. The indoor pool water temp was only 72F, it should be a minimum of 78F. When we checked in we were told that our room was completed but there was still construction on the third floor but that there "shouldn't be too much noise." They offered to move us to the second floor, but still said that the construction may impact us. We decided to stay on the third floor. Each day construction began promptly at 7AM, with demolition hammers, other equipment, etc. The noise was SO LOUD that it could be heard outside CLEAR ACROSS THE PARKING LOT. This happened EVERY MORNING. It was so loud that you could hear it throughout the guest room area- every room was impacted. It wasn't quiet either- everyone was woken up early and no one could ever sleep in. The indoor pool and hot tub were non-functional the entire stay- and it was cold outside and raining, and the only day that was warm enough to swim outside was our last day. When asked if and when the indoor pool would be working again, staff had the gall to suggest that we swim outside in barely 70F weather, and then later said that the indoor pool water was cold because "kids kept jumping in it and splashing the water all out". How absolutely ridiculous, and a blatant lie. They did wind up "fixing" the pool heater the second day, but it heated so slowly that the pool was never up to temp to swim in anyway.
When told that we were told at the time of reservation that we wouldn't be impacted by renovations or construction, staff basically told us that we were lying. When told that we were told that there were no issues with the amenities at the lodge, staff again basically said we were lying. Someone at the lodge had called to confirm my stay a week or so prior to arrival, and I had again asked about the functioning of the amenities and was NOT TOLD that the indoor pool or hot tub were broken and not working, and AGAIN was told that the rooms were ready and there would be no issues with construction. In actuality, our room had non-functioning sliding door locks, missing electrical face plates, non-functional exhaust fan in the bathroom, swapped hot/cold water lines in the bathroom, missing TV cable hookup faceplate, no climate control in the third floor hallway/stairway, construction cardboard covering the floors in the hallway, foam covering the interior of the elevator, cardboard on elevator floor, construction debris everywhere, housekeeping letting towels and trash pile up in the hallways, the list goes on and on. Additionally, the lodge gathering areas and restaurant were like meat lockers- everyone had to constantly wear jackets because it was freezing cold. The restaurant food was overpriced and the dinner/lunch selections were barely edible. I had to send back food because it tasted spoiled. When asked for one biscuit and a side of gravy, staff brought a whole order instead and refused to take it back or adjust the price for their mix-up.
After all was said and done, my stay for three nights totaled $560 and some change, the lodge wound up taking a whopping $60 off despite having ZERO amenities, a HORRIBLE atmosphere, and a nasty restaurant. The cost of the stay should have been halved because of all of the issues.
After reading more reviews, it seems like the hot tub and pool have had issues for a long time. I doubt the positive reviews for this place.
