If you are an ExPat, they require you to purchase a renters insurance policy as a requirement to open an account. And supposedly, the account is only taxed if you deposit LESS than 800 a month or 2500 every quarter. I’ve had to deal with other very odd things with this bank. Use caution if you decide to bank here and always watch your account. Building is nice. Expect a 45 minute wait no matter what time of day and your issue may or may not get resolved.

I went here to open an account and the lady I spoke to, Sonia, was extremely helpful. Also, we had the entire conversation in Spanish which I appreciated, because I told her I could understand Spanish and she spoke slowly for me rather than speaking English. I really appreciated her professional service and her kindness. I am happy to say I had a great experience opening my first Spanish bank account here.

I do not recommend using the cash machine here on the front of the building. Experience August 3, 3:30 pm: I Tried to take out cash. Card jammed in machine, would not go in and I could not get it out. Machine stopped working. The edge of the card was visible, but I could not get at it, and I could not cancel the transaction. Went into the bank (doors were open). I explained. Person in bank inside said “Come back tomorrow.” Not helpful, as I was concerned that this was part of a scam, as Barcelona is a high petty crime city and this is near the cathedral, a busy tourist spot which attracts pick pockets and purse snatchers and my card was still visible. I did not want to leave my card in the machine in a public place in case someone had set this up to get my card. Went back to hotel to get something to try to pull card out. Came back in half an hour to find the machine now working and my card gone. Bank was now closed. Either: this was a scam to get my card by a petty thief by jamming the machine, in which case the bank security is not very good; or, the machine broke down and the bank in fact was able to fix the machine once it was not working and they realized were losing businsss! I cancelled my card to protect myself, at considerable hassle for the rest of my trip. Not impressed with this bank and its lack of service or caring.

The customer service hours have reduced to 8:30 to 11:00, in Covid times it would be better to increase hours, to reduce the time with strangers, 30 minutes so far, and only half the queue served.
