Really nice store with a very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Pretty much everything you could want to create a bird friendly backyard. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of the prices. Get ready for some sticker shock. I do feel good about supporting local stores and small businesses but the prices are surprisingly high.
Visited for the first on Saturday (3/12) and were absolutely blown away! The store is gorgeous and full of everything you could ever need for your outdoor feathered friends. The associates are so friendly and extremely knowledgeable about local birds and how best to attract them. We ended up getting 2 different feeders, seed and signing up for their membership program.
We love this store. Knowledgeable, friendly staff and great products. Prices are higher on bird food and feeders, supplies than some places but the service and quality can't be beat. Their pole systems are quite nice and they have many options to hold the feeders of your choice. If you are new to bird feeding the founder of WBU has a wonderful book to help you get started attracting, feeding and identifying all of your new, feathered friends. I learned of it in their free "Guide to Feeding Birds" pamphlet in store. I bought a copy of the book online as they had no copies on store, which is a shame because it is a GREAT book. We are new to SC so we really enjoyed this detailed info on getting started. There are a staggering number of products out there and the guide really focuses on how to figure out what will work best for you.
This small store is lovely. There are birdbaths and a fountain/waterfall type water feature that gurgles and the sound is quite relaxing. There are many wonderful, unique gift options for anyone who loves feeding and attracting wild birds. Always an enjoyable visit to this peaceful oasis.
Join the club and it pays for itself in no time. A free bag of seed ( which is valued at price of membership) to start and decent discounts to follow. You also accrue points for your purchases to spend on future items.
While it is admittedly a bit of an investment to start up with a system, feeders, seed, etc, the items are very high quality and will last for many years to come. The enjoyment you will get from watching the beautiful birds in your yard will pay dividends on your investment. The bids just love their blends of seeds, fruits and nuts and the option to purchase their "hot pepper" items that squirrels don't eat is helpful. It helps to keep them out of your feeders ( as do the nice baffles they sell for poles). You can buy shelled peanuts or corn and feeders made for those fluffy little buggers there, too.
Staff is so always fun to chat with and not pushy salespeople.
For all your birding needs....thanks to WBU, we've got a regular nest of bluebirds, we feed a flock of goldfinches every day, we see woodpeckers, finches, thrashers, towhees, chickadees, carolina wrens, AND we've been visited by a migrating Baltimore oriole, a tanager and grosbeak. Good clean fun for everyone, and a great present for children of friends. Just be sure to get the Squirrel Buster spring-loaded feeders so so don't spend your precious $$$ on feeding the squirrels instead of the birds. Also, we've just used shelled sunflower chips and we get the vast variety of birds we do.
