Went to the store with excitement to find or have a new German Style Bass Bow order as I believe highly in supporting my local music store.
This was my first time at the store and I was greeted at the front door by Daniel D. (Business manager) with hesitation while rudely on the phone. I wasnt sure at first if I could enter.
I was fine with not letting that bother me so much as I still would have liked to have some attention to place have an order or ask if they carry the bow.
While waiting for Daniel to finish his business on the phone I decided to wander the shop until I could speak with him. Wandering near an unmarked room with more instruments I was immediately stop by Daniel D. (while he was still on the phone) and with an elevated voice said "You are not allowed in the room, what are you looking for!". I have never been so rudely approached by a music store manager in my life!
I felt as if perhaps I was profiled because I commuted by skateboard that day? (Left it in the front of the store as respect for the shop). Maybe having my board with me gave the impression that I am not a musician somehow. (Not sure)
However, as a professional musician I will not recommend my students here for any repair work or supplies as I do not want them to have the same experience. I also will be speaking with my friends in the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra about this shop and see if they have had the same level disrespect or discrimination.
I came across a listing for a ukulele over Facebook market place. The seller was so responsive. When I picked up the ukulele from the shop, i saw that the quality of the instrument was great and even better was the value. He included a free digital tuner, strap, and even packed and paid for insurance to ensure that if the ukulele was damaged on the way to New York, he could address the issue. He was so so kind and generous. I highly recommend Aloha Music School.
Thank you!
My girls has been taking lessons here since they were small. One pass baton to the next for piano lessons.
They recently moved to the Imperial Plaza from University Square and the new facility is worth a note. The lesson studios are on the perimeter of the space and in addition, they have guitar, ukulele, and string instrument on display and for sale. Best price in town.
My 2 kids age 11 and 8 are taking piano lesson at Aloha Music School for a year now and they love it, they have progressed so fast and now enjoy playing the piano in their free time👍🏾
