For years my trauma therapist had recommended martial arts and I refused to go however I finally gave in a year ago and gave it a chance. I wish I would have tried it sooner. Karate has truly been a game-changer in my life. It has provided me with an unexpected avenue to cope with complex PTSD and anxiety. When I began my journey in martial arts, I had no idea how profoundly it would affect my mental and emotional well-being. Karate isn't just a physical activity for me; it has has equipped me with tools to manage the struggles I face. Working with Sensei Irene has been an invaluable part of my healing process. I've learned mindfulness. Karate isn't just about striking and kicking; it requires deep concentration and mindfulness. The precision and focus demanded in every move allow me to stay grounded in the present moment, providing an escape from the intrusive thoughts and memories that often haunt me. Sensei Irene has empowered me! One of the most remarkable aspects of karate is the sense of empowerment it brings. Learning self-defense techniques has significantly boosted my self-esteem and self-worth, helping me reclaim the control and security that complex PTSD tends to strip away. Karate gives me a constructive outlet for pent-up emotions and stress. Engaging in intense training sessions allows me to release built-up tension and anxiety in a healthy and controlled way, leaving me with a profound sense of relief afterward. The karate community has been an essential source of support and understanding. I've encountered incredible instructors and fellow practitioners who provide a safe, non-judgmental space to grow and heal. The process of setting and accomplishing goals in karate has given me a sense of purpose and accomplishment. These small victories inside the dojo have translated into greater self-belief and resilience in my daily life. Karate incorporates deep breathing and relaxation exercises, which have proven invaluable in managing anxiety and panic attacks. I've learned to control my breath and calm my nerves, skills that extend far beyond the dojo. Karate has taught me how to cope with being uncomfortable and that each time I learn to sit in discomfort, I get stronger and I am able to tolerate more. In essence, karate has been my anchor amidst the chaos of complex PTSD and anxiety recovery this past year. It has empowered me, provided a structured path to healing, and surrounded me with a supportive community. I wholeheartedly recommend karate as an addition to anyone who, like me, is seeking a holistic approach to healing and building resilience in the face of mental health challenges. Karate has not only enhanced my physical strength but also fortified my mental and emotional strength, helping me regain control over my internal chaos and find peace amidst adversity. Thank you Sensei Irene!

Sensei Irene knows how to keep her students motivated. Even during these times of social distancing, she has kept the karate family together and feeling connected, even while 6 feet apart.
