This mall is slowly dying. Each time I visit there are more and more empty storefronts. Many of the stores still exist in Ames, but have moved to new strip malls. As of today Planet Fitness (workout gym) takes up most of the store space, and JCPennys is the only anchor store left. The women’s bathroom had several maintenance issues and none of the mall entrance or bathroom doors were ADA friendly.
It's improving! As much as was lost in the past year, they have slowly begun to replace with decent stores .. finally! Not stop gap fill-ins, (or at least hopefully not so, hehe)!
After HomeGoods and a few other shops up and closed down/moved to other sides of Ames, the Mall was looking like it was finally on its last legs. The stores that were there were mainly novelty and eccentric garage sale/thrifty/eBay....well...you get the picture I'm sure. Heh.
At any rate, the old HomeGoods store is being used as the temp Halloween Costume shop and there's some other fresh blood being pumped in slowly. I'll definitely take a closer look at it as it seems Ames is getting a revamp finally.
Hopefully it will be done in good taste and with the town in mind, (as in they've researched longevity and what's needed), rather than instant sparkle that inevitably goes the way of the dodo like so many other shops in this town.
Update- most shops are now clothes shops, now that shag moved its kinda boring. It does still have the movie theater tho and for some reason an anytime fitness taking up half the whole mall. Only reason to go IMO is if your wanting to see a movie, but movies 12 is better with the sound and seating.
A LOT of great prices rt now!!! Should check it out, was disappointed that Shags is moving though. Not much of a selection there, but otherwise it's a nice mall!

Great mall. Sad that many stores are losing the battle to keep brick and mortar presence.
