Maria Del Alma Guest House

We’ve visited in summer and winter. Both times have been a very pleasant welcoming stay. Don Fernando provide breakfast and conversation every morning. You can ask him if places to visit around the world, but specifically to Mexico he can share references and personal experiences. Would highly recommend staying in Coyoacan at casa Maria del Alma as it is in walking distance to many attractions as Fridas house, centro de Coyoacan right in the center of Mexico City 💕 Can’t wait to go back and experience the temazcal tour he offers.

I arrived by taxi at 10pm, and the owners grabbed my bags and ushered me up an outdoor staircase to the most delightful large room with a big balcony. In the morning I could appreciate all the beautiful flowers and birdsongs around the balcony, plus the lovely courtyard and outdoor breakfast area. This was my first trip to Mexico, and already I loved it! I am a retired woman traveling alone, studying Spanish, and seeing the sights. Fernando, the chef and main host, made sure all my needs were met. He obviously took joy in presenting his guests with a different breakfast dish every day. I had fourteen different breakfasts during my fourteen-day stay. Every one was delicious! During my stay, one group of guests wouldn't touch one of the items served on their plates at breakfast. Fernando had never had guests from their country before, so that evening he googled what they typically ate for breakfast in their country! And the next morning he offered some foods which these guests were more familiar with for breakfast. This guesthouse is located in the Coyoacán "colonia", a very relaxed and safe neighborhood, with restaurants, supermarket, cafés, artisan market, parks, home/Museum of Frida Kahlo and subway all within about 10 minutes' walk. Fifteen minute subway ride to the historic center of Mexico City. The first two cars of all subways are reserved for women and any children under age 12. Interesting idea...

This place is a gem. The host Fernando is excellent at making guest feel welcome. I enjoyed staying here and see why guest return. Breakfast is at a community table and one morning spoke with a couple who shared they made a point to stay here anytime they came to Mexico City or it’s vicinity. The food here was some of the best we had in the whole city. I want to return just to come back here. Coyoacán was my favorite borough. The jardines were my favorite way to end the days. Cafe Jarocho, which you’ll only find in Coyoacán, had the best iced coffee for the hot summer. So many cute restaurants a short walk from the guest house. The Frida museum was less than a five minute walk.

The food was excellent, the host was charming and very helpful. The rooms were clean and inviting. We had a wonderful stay and we highly recommend this home away from home.
