We loved this gem - the location is perfect, costs reasonable, and the service was incredible. Whether Daniel, Isabel or Maria, the onsite staff bent over backwards to make sure we were happy and comfortable. The beds are great, and everything is immaculately clean. The first floor cafe is fantastic, and it would take months to eat at all the restaurants within a 5-minute walk. Very cheap 15 minute Uber to almost anywhere in the city. We look forward to coming back to Casa Kanabri!
Great value for the price, very centrally located. I got one bedroom but it was a closet with a bed, a weird concept but worth it. The bathroom was shared, the bed and bathroom were clean.
One of the worst experiences I had as a bike traveler in Latin America in 8 months. After I booked a private room, I was told that I had to go to a dorm. In addition, in one without a window, although some with windows were available, and private rooms were also still available. The worst part was the lounge area on the ground floor, there were shards of glass everywhere that weren't swept away and my bicycle tire was punctured when I parked it. The property had refused to refund him. To make matters worse, 5 Cuban refugees were housed who talked on the phone until late at night. Every evening the kitchen was occupied by you and left very dirty. The kitchen has no cooking pots, cutlery or knives for cutting. The stovetops are on induction, so the normal pans didn't receive proper heat. The garbage wasn't emptied, so there were cockroaches crawling around in there. Never this hostel again, especially it is not safe with refugees.
If you're showing up before reservation time they will not let you in to even sit like other hostels. It says on Hostelworld they have 24hr reception but then I showed up at 4 in the morning awaking the receptionist from his sleep. He didn't want to let me in. I told him I had a reservation like three times. I've traveled for about ten years now and have never had a hostel say they can't let me in and chill in the lounge. On top of that it was 40degrees outside an did was wearing just a sweatshirt, so they had no pity. Probably the most unprofessional and least customer service orientated hostel I've been too and I've traveled 12 countries and 22 states. If they are like that when you get there I can't imagine what it's like when you stay. Don't be persuaded by looks either. The part I saw was mediocre.
The location was great, right in the centre of everything. The hostel pays tribute to Mexican art and is well decorated. The rooms were small. The staff provided everything we asked for and were friendly. The space was kept clean.
