I went in for 4 new tires. While there, the younger man up front spoke so degrading. I told him I only wanted a 1 time alignment with the tires and not the package he was trying to up-sell me on. He tried to explain an alignment to me despite me telling him I understood what it was and what I wanted to purchase. He ended up calling me and telling me they only offered a minimum 3 month alignment package. When I went to get my vehicle, I saw a sign right behind him with the price of a one time alignment. When it came time to pay, the cost was $450 more than what I was quoted. He entered the cost of the tires into the system as ~$100 more each. I rarely come to Big O because this seems to be my experience every time. They’re simply out for money and not genuine care.
So, me and my wife have gone to Big O tires multiple times now. Gotten brakes changed, new tires, etc from them and have had a decent experience. My last two trips there have left me extremely frustrated. One experience was having a lug nut cross threaded by a different company, and when going to Big O’s to ask them to help take it off they said they would have to cut my wheel to take the lug nut off and it was a minimum $500 job max $800 and that was if I went a bought the supplies needed and brought them to Big O’s for a discount. I went and got a second opinion at Tims and he did the job for $150 plus a tire rotation. Another situation was when my wife and I brought our tires in to get them patched due to nails being in the tire. Even though the nails were around the same place on the tires for both cars they claimed mine was a sidewalk puncture and I would have to replace the tire. I was told getting 4 tires was most optimal but two would suffice. I was told that if I patched it then the patch would come right out when driving and it would not work on the tire. They wouldn’t even patch it if I wanted to because of their policy. So instead of buying tires right away which was their recommendation I went to Tim’s again and he said it was for sure patchable and did the job for $15 less than they charged my wife who for some reason had a “patchable” tire even tho the nails were in similar spots. I have now driven my car 200miles with the patch remaining in place with no issues. Either the policies here suck and it makes it almost impossible for a cheaper effective job or the employees aren’t well trained and are trying to rack up charges. I don’t know which is which but it’s disappointing I can’t trust a place so close to where I live and I’ll have to avoid going there because I can’t trust them.
Update: 1,000 miles now on car. Patch never came out. Driving well!
Had another great experience with Ankeny Big O. Needed some new tires put on my truck. Stopped in for a quote and they helped me with some options and also mentioned that will price match competition, which they did. I've always had a great experience and service at this location so of course they won my business. They had the tires delivered next day and had my tires installed and an alignment in short order. Thank you for the friendly and prompt service!
Go somewhere else for your tires! I feel like I got scammed! I went in to get new tires. I made an appointment online and I got an email confirmation confirming my appointment so I thought all was good. Upon checkout I notice they wanted to charge me an extra $55 per tire. I asked why this was the case and they said it was because the tires weren't in stock and need to be express shipped to make my appointment time. This was never communicated to me. I never received a phone call, email and no one told me when I arrived and dropped off my car in the first place. They claimed they called me several times but apparently I never answered. I showed them I never received a call from "Big O Tires" just a bunch of "Potential Spam" numbers. They claimed their number was the Potential Spam number and it was my fault for not answering HOWEVER they did call me earlier this afternoon to ask permission to do an alignment on the tires and the phone number read "Big O Tires". When I asked why I never received an email if they couldn't get a hold of me via phone they told me their system wouldn't allow them to email customers directly... If this was actually the case then my appointment time should never have been approved in the first place if I did not approve express shipping. I would've easily rescheduled the appointment. I honestly don't believe the tires needed to be express shipped. It feels like they saw I was a young woman and thought they could take advantage of me hoping I wouldn't notice the upcharge. I lost all trust in them. Would rate 0 stars after this.
Christian Dan and the rest of the crew does such a great job. They stayed after hours to fix my car made sure it was safe to drive and was very very very nice! And made it cost effective for a college student.
