There is a reason I always start at Ace. They have such friendly and knowledgeable staff. Scott knew exactly what I was looking for and told me both spots that I would find them in the store. He also had answers for a few different ladder questions I had.
Checking out was a breeze as well, Cindy was so efficient and warm. Holiday seasons tend to be tough on retail associates, so it was a delight that she was so cheery and bright.

This used to be my favorite hardware store.
They somehow manage to have greater selection, and always have more knowledgeable staff than the big box alternatives.
Sadly, their decision not to have public restrooms no only breaks State Law, but it can sometimes shorten the duration of some shoppers’ visit.
The phrase “Out of Order” is used. Really? A Hardware store doesn’t have parts and wherewithal to repair a sink or a toilet?
Or are there other less virtuous reasons to withhold this basic service to customers? Like not wanting to clean it. Or not wanting non-verified customers to use it?
C’mon folks. Let’s revive the concept that you are a neighborhood store. A friendly part of the community. Who actually cares about the needs of their customers.
I was helped by a bright young man named Ron today. It’s very rare to get decent customer service in any kind of store today. Somehow it’s as if we have lost that art as a people…which is especially sad in this country, where we used to excel at it. And this is particularly true in a place like a hardware store, where it can be hard to find anybody working there who actually knows either the hardware, or what it does and how to use it.
In a day gone by, that was why you actually went to independent hardware stores, not only to find what you needed, but to get advice from somebody who knew the territory.
Well, Ron is a throwback. He’s one of those people with multiple interests and multiple talents, who actually knows and is interested in what he sells, as well as being interested in his customers. He gave me recommendations and great suggestions for a variety of projects that I’m working on. Not only was it very helpful talking with him, it was fun!!
And I spent money today on multiple goodies, and I’ll be back there soon to get some more. Thanks, Ace, for continuing to be of service, and for hiring terrific employees like Ron! In fact, every employee I had interactions with there today seemed in a good mood, and all were more than willing to help! Well done, Ace!
We don’t want to see specialized hardware stores go the way of RadioShack, and I believe customer service can be one of your greatest selling points! Thank you for being there, Ron and Ace, and for having what I needed.
