We have had a great experience at Tierra Encantada - Windom. Our children have been enrolled in the center since they were infants. All of the teachers we have had love the kids and are very attentive. All of the staff knows all of the children by name and interacts with each of them even if they are not their primary teachers. The building has a great, big, indoor gym which helps so much in the wintertime. We have loved TE Windom and would recommend it to others!
Tierra Encantada prevents parents from writing critical reviews online. They made all parents sign a document that if they left negative reviews online that would be seen as a notice of departure from their center. 4 years ago they also incentivized parents to leave positive reviews online. If you left a review they entered you into a drawing for a prize.
We had a very eventful experience at TE. We were here for many years, we tried to leave the center a few times, but struggled to find other Spanish speaking centers that were convenient for our family.
Pros:
-The other parents we met were great and we formed some close relationships.
-The building is still nice and fairly new
-We had some great teachers over the years
Cons:
-The owner did not have the ability to take constructive feedback. She would get online and argue with parents, rather than listening to their concerns.
-It is almost impossible to get a response from administration. Sometimes you would reach out with urgent concerns and not hear back at all.
-Teacher turnover is disruptive. We understand it is hard to staff day care centers, but many of our favorite teachers left because they were treated so poorly by management. Many times teachers reached out to parents to see if we could bring their concerns to management, because they felt like their concerns were going unanswered.
-We had many instances of poor teachers as well. We dealt with homophobic remarks from teachers to our kids, scary stories during nap times, and lots of time watching teachers phones during the day. Since you could not get a hold of management, it was difficult to get answers on what was happening in the classroom. Because of the turnover you often picked your child up in a state of chaos.
-There was very little communication when major changes happened in the classroom. Teachers would leave and the parents would not be notified, your kid would be in a new classroom and you would not know it, and there was a constant turnover in administration without communication.
We loved TE when we started and joined because we felt they stood out that they chose to treat their staff differently than other centers. As the years went on it seemed that the ownership was only interested in growing the brand and not maintaining certain expectations at their center. Year by year the attention to detail and quality of service would suffer, we felt like we had no choice but to leave the center.
See my old 5 star review below from 5 years ago. We used to love TE. We still love the teachers but the administration and corporate has gotten progressively worse over the years. They grew fast and service dropped as fast as they grew. Many original directors mysteriously disappeared. Teacher turnover has increased significantly and many who left made parents aware how poorly they are treated. Tuition continues to increase and days the center is closed have increased too. So, paying more for less. The owner is rude and does not respond well to any criticism.
The current director is not available to parents and has scheduled meetings with parents and then failed to show up.
It’s impossible to get a hold of enrollment. Our final straw was they have no bathrooms in the toddler room and it was hard on our potty trained toddler. We asked to move up a little early and requested a room that our two oldest were in. They told me there is no space for at least 5 months and never in that room. Found out that was a lie and there was a lot of room. (Both my older two children moved up early after potty training so it’s not a licensing thing)
After 6 years we are leaving. Check out glassdoor and the licensing website for more reason not to come here.
Although we do still really love our teachers.
Old review:
We love Tierra Encantada Windom! The teachers and administration obviously care so much about the children in the facility. My son started in the infant room and all three teachers were amazing! They went on daily buggy rides outside and he was never sad to be there. He’s also a big eater and the teachers made sure he was never hungry.
He moved to the toddler room in August and has been just as happy. He runs to the teachers with smiles every morning. They were supportive when we potty trained him early and he has done amazing with it, which is clearly a testament to the teachers hard work. The artwork he brings home is awesome and he seems to love the food (which is healthy!) They go outside and/or play in the gym daily which he also loves.
Every staff member we see, from teachers and administrators to the cleaning staff and cooks, greet him by name which is so impressive to me. He loves it there! We were at a different Spanish immersion daycare before TE Windom opened and my husband said it best a few weeks after our switch "He seems so much happier on the way home than he ever did before!"I totally agree.
We love you all! Thank you! Can't wait for our new baby to start there this summer!
Our 3-year-old son has been attending Tierra at this Windom location since it opened about 6 months ago. We absolutely love the high quality care he receives. The staff are very attentive and loving yet professional. We appreciate the healthy food, art activities, outdoor play, and the ability for him to expend tons of energy in the large gym on cold days. Our son is learning so much and we are grateful we can trust Tierra to nurture his growth. The fact that he is learning Spanish is icing on the cake!
We love Tierra! The teachers are so loving and have tons of energy. Windom has a huge gym which is great for the winter months. The administration is great, very responsive and help translate when needed. Teachers from other classrooms know my daughter's name and she loves going so that's what matters most!
