I took my first-ever yoga class at Open Space and loved it. Our instructor, James, was incredible. The class that James prepared seamlessly blended information on the philosophy of yoga with a combination of poses that were challenging but doable for a beginner.
Open Space feels very comfortable, like a house: shoes come off at the door, the space is very clean, they have a nice bathroom, many plants are present throughout the rooms, and they have an awesome water cooler which I needed because I forgot a water bottle.
This is a wonderful environment to learn yoga. Mats can be rented for $1 bringing the total cost of a class to about $20. Highly recommend taking a class with James if you can.
I've been fortunate to have been able to visit many different yoga studios, and this one is one of my favorite ones. All studios are welcoming, but Open Space Yoga on Monsarrat has its own special "come as you are" attitude that makes beginners and more advanced all feel equally welcome. With open windows on both sides of the two studios, there is generally a sweet breeze in the room (and unfortunately also some traffic noise). The classes are rarely too crowded, so there is plenty of space to move freely. And most important, the instructors are excellent and convey great love for the practice. (Note that many of the photos for this address are actually taken from a different Open Space Yoga studio location; not sure why)
Very knowledgeable instructors, great energy, atmosphere, and staff. I was a newer yogi and felt right at home, Open Space like their name suggests does create an open and inviting atmosphere conducive to learning at your own individual speed. Most all of the classes were around 8-10 students, with a few of the more popular ones reaching around 15 or so, but that really only contributed to the energy! I always felt like I received a lot of personal direction it really was amazing. Also it being my first time at Open Space I only paid $40 for my first month. I would recommend checking it out. They have 2 locations in Chinatown and Diamond Head, and a variety of classes to choose from with classes throughout the day and weekend. They also have a handy phone application that makes it easy to schedule. Overall the best Yoga experience I've yet had.
The location on Smith Street in Chinatown is niiiiice! Hardwood floors, lots of windows and natural light, and it's clean and tidy. Great space for a yoga sesh. I wish I remembered to take pics during my last visit.
Really lovely little space. You can see Diamond Head while sitting on your mat. I joined an evening yin class with a cool breeze coming through the windows. A massive upgrade from the large city classes I'm accustomed to on the mainland.
