My opinion, make the extra 7 -10 minute drive to Belvidere for some gyms who care about the people in their community more.
My main issue with this gym was (is) getting the membership cancelled. The owner (Paul) confirmed my cancellation in July. I get charged again in August and again confirm cancellation with Paul. Long story short, I now have to dispute this through my credit card and provide evidence of cancellation (which I have). It s taken 3 months and counting to try and get them to do the right thing.
There is a third party that bills you, the parent company (ABC I believe). When trying to cancel and get refunded, there is a lot of finger pointing back and forth between the owner and the biller, no one will to admit a mistake, which doesn't help the customer at all.
Basically the whole thing is a huge pain to the customer which could easily be avoided. It almost seems as they just want to frustrate you to the point of forgetting about it. If you do this at 38 dollars a pop to enough people, and they give up, I imagine you make a nice chunk of change.
The gym is OK. It's got everything you need. It's usually not too crowded. I would say it's a little on the pricey side for what you can get elsewhere. However, it's the only Gym in Poplar Grove open to the public that I know of, so they get away with it for now. I imagine people would enjoy another option locally.
Ryan was GREAT at making me feel welcome to join this gym. He was really excited and passionate about what he does. I was intimidated to go in initially because I’ve never been here before but he made me feel welcome. He explained everything and made sure I understood EXACTLY what I was signing up for which was great. 10/10 recommend
Ryan is super friendly and welcoming. He makes it feel like you belong with just how open-arms his attitude is towards EVERYBODY. He was giving me a quick tour and rundown of the gym and was waiving and addressing people when they came in the door. I felt like I was meeting up with an old friend rather than an owner. Nobody comes close to how upbeat and amazing Ryan is.
Best place to go. You can workout anytime , any day . Its clean and updated . Love this gym . The manger Ryan is really nice and cool and you can tell he loves the job , which I like to see and attend to this location. Its worth every dollar I spend. This place I never feel judged , equipment is always open and never too busy , which I like
I've been meaning to leave a review, and I finally got a chance! Ryan at the Poplar Grove location was a great help in getting me into the gym again! He was open, he listened and he was knowledgeable about the material and location at hand as well! He was courteous and helped me get signed up that day and was a pleasure to work with! Definitely reccomend and thank him for all he did to get me back on a healthier path!
