Ankeny Martial Arts

As a father and 3 sons we are greatly enjoying our time in traditional Taekwondo class as it has been great to learn self defense and also be active, gaining muscle flexibility and just being there for each other as a dad and his boys. Mr. and Mrs. Deaver are very kind and helpful and they care very much for each student and seeing them continually improve. I am very grateful for Mr. Anderson and his teaching and the patience and support he gives us 4 (and the entire class) is ideal for learning and following through with each weeks teaching. I don’t know many his age that I respect more. Mr. Inman is also a great contributor to all things Ankeny Martial Arts. We are all so glad to be apart of this class and look forward to moving forward as a family! Lucas Berry

More than just self defense My daughter started through the Ankeny Parks and Rec program. We expected it to be someone with little experience herding children in a community building. It wasn’t. We were amazed that it was hosted by an accomplished martial arts family in a nice facility specially designed for teaching the craft. They are a local small business that has been around for almost 20 years and we didn’t know it existed. After the P&R classes ended my daughter wanted to join. My wife and I were hesitant because of the time commitment and membership fee, and our daughter was only seven. We realized this was something she was enjoying and it wasn't any different from the sports that our other kids were in, soccer and gymnastics, both of which cost way more and took just as much, if not more time. After watching my daughter engage for a month, I decided to make it a father-daughter venture and join myself. It has been a wonderful experience. It is something that we get to spend time together doing. The classes accommodate adults and children and it is so much more than self-defense. My daughter has learned patience, focus, confidence, being calm, being respectful, and it has strengthened her memory and muscles and improved her endurance. And then there is the part where I don’t worry about her being bullied, or doing the right thing.

Our daughter loves going to taekwondo here. The teachers are wonderful and very patient with the kids! They have had issues with their apps and I'm still not sure it's working but overall they have been wonderful to work with. My daughter looks forward to going 2 times a week.

Mr. Deaver is an exceptional person. His black belt student instructors are top notch. Wyatt loves the Lil Ninjas and the youth Tae kwon do programs. His confidence, balance and agility have all improved since starting the classes. Highly recommend.
